Ólöf Björg Björnsdóttir
My name is Ólöf Björg Björnsdóttir (meaning the one who inherids, a saviour and a daughter of a bear). I was borned 18 of september 1973 in Reykjavík Iceland, with icelandic/norwegian blood. I have BA degree from The icelandic Academy of the Arts and a teachers diploma from same school. Also studied in the Universidad de Granada in Spain and had a one year period of internship studying in Korea with the artist An Ho Bum as well as learning the tecnik of chinise ink for four flower paintings !
I have lived in few contries and have traveled to many others for inspiration, now currantly living in Iceland with my daughter Snaedis (meaning fairy of the snow) the dog Olimpia and a bird with no name !
Growing up in a little town Hafnarfjordur close to Reykjavik within the nature of mountains and surrounded by comforting sweet soft lava and energy underground, still a view over the harbour and the big ocean that connected the island to all the adventurus places I wanted to visit was a good place for a dreamy girl like myself.
Roughly about my thaughts as a thread through many of my works...
I make exsperimental expressive art in different medias mostly in paintings, installations and drawings. I dwell in emotions and open sences of experiencing life and a view of the humans. As though even being called ratical beings, we have an animal part living within. My view is looking at the humans when being mostly alive as emotional beings whos openly connected to all that is nature in a wide sence but at the same time often locked inside of own builded frames and the frames of society ! I use contrasts in the ideas to make a ballance. The human rutes of finding the „real“ in the now to exspand and grow. Poetic throw up of „silent screams“ of all emotions and „the real“ for the search of the core through the fantacy !
When working on my paintings I often beguin through a free dance with choosen sounds to get in contact with my inner voice that choose colors, floting forms and lines for the canvas in a spontant expression that I then ballance through a „conversation and a sertain intemacy“ to the work to open up a figure, to figure out its way. Like the conflict of hurting and healing, the desire to connect to others. The figures have often been alone in the frame to connect personally to the viewer but at times I look at two people connecting!
I have also looked at a viewer connecting to himself like for exsample in the installation „Mirror project“, an interactive connection between the viewer to him self in front of somekind of an althar to form a self nearness in a busy street !
